The Tilburg Center for Logic and Philosophy of Science (TiLPS) invites applications for two four-year full-time PhD positions and one two-year postdoc position.Individuals that are encouraged to apply have an interest in logical and computational theories of ordinary reasoning, natural logic, and/or linguistic semantics and want to investigate these topics in a setting of tableau theorem proving and model checking. Scholarship Description:CAMM – Centre of Advanced Mining and Metallurgy (www.camm.se) is a recently established centre of excellence, based on strategic funds from the Swedish government within the strategic area Sustainable use of natural resources: mining and minerals at Luleå University of Technology. One of the CAMM work packages is dedicated to the emerging field of geometallurgy that brings together geological sciences, mineral processing and metallurgy in order to characterize physical and chemical properties of rocks and ore from the in situ ore stage through the extraction and beneficiation stages to the final product. The aim is to optimize processes, minimize waste and reduce costs in the mine to mill operation.

We are looking for a PhD student in Ore Geology with focus on ore characterization. The PhD-project will comprise petrology and mineralogy in a detailed deposit study in the Skellefte VMS District. The character of the ore will be documented in terms of metal content, mineral associations, metal distribution etc, using geometallurgical and mineralogical techniques (e.g. hypespectral methods, XRD, SEM-WDS, Laser Ablation ICPMS). Results will have to be prepared for use within the larger framework of geometallurgical modelling to provide a base for predicting mineral process performance and mine planning considering the geological variability of the ore. The project is part of the geometallurgy work package of CAMM. Fieldwork and drillcore logging in the deposit area will be an important part of the study and therefore experience from drillcore- and bedrock mapping is a merit.

The Materials & Engineering Research Institute (MERI) is a large and research active business within Sheffield Hallam University. Based at City Campus, its excellent research outputs in areas such as materials modelling, multi-layer nanoscale PVD coatings and clay nanocomposite materials have gained it an RAE rating of 5 in the most recent assessment. MERI also excels in generating income through consultancy activities including failure analysis, quality control and new product development. Our clients include many national and international companies from the automotive, medical and aerospace sectors, but also include many SMEs from the Yorkshire and Humberside region. The quality of our interaction was recognised by Yorkshire Forward when MERI was accredited with a Centre of Industrial Collaboration (MARS CIC).

Sheaf Solutions is a consultancy business within MERI which delivers process modelling and simulation consultancy to a range of public sector and industrial clients. We are seeking to strengthen the Sheaf Solutions team through the recruitment of a highly motivated individual to deliver consultancy to local and national clients.


The role will require a flexible approach in order to respond to the diverse needs of industry. With some industrial experience, you will be very capable in the understanding of the application of process modelling and simulation to industrial processes and will be able to supplement the work of other MERI staff by providing consultancy on the optimisation of engineering processes using software such as Arena, and you will have significant experience of work or research in associated areas, such as Lean Operations.



A background of having worked for other regional projects or within Government funded schemes would be an advantage.

The role will include talking to regional companies, generating new contacts and delivering work, and report writing.

You will ideally be educated to postgraduate level (or with equivalent experience) and with significant experience in a research and development environment. You must have excellent IT, communications and written skills and be able to perform individually or as part of a team where necessary.
