1. A total of 3 scholarships worth £ 5,000 from the cost of full-time school students in the MSc in Food & Water Safety courses available for students who begin their studies in September 2011. It is open to both UK / EU and non-EU students.

2. Separate application forms will not be necessary. It is therefore important that the application for a place [see www.aber.ac.uk/en/postgrad/howtoapply/] received by the AU Graduate Admissions Office May 31, 2011. Applicants must determine "MSc in Food & Water Safety Scholarship" in section 4 of the Graduate
The application form, or in relevant parts of the application on-line.

3. Selection will be based on academic excellence and suitability of applicants for their proposed course. Minimum (UK) 2.i Honours degree (or equivalent) is required for consideration. Information about the comparability of the degree of non-English version available at
www.aber.ac.uk/en/postgrad/howtoapply/entryrequirements/comparability/.

4. The decision for 2011 will be conducted by a selection panel on the basis of academic excellence (see 3 above) and if necessary, relevant work experience. The panel will consist of representatives from the academic IBERS, IGES and the Department of
International Politics and will be chaired by the Dean of Graduate Studies. Results will be available the first week of July 2011.

5. Scholarships are available for fully funded students themselves (ie they can not be possessed by students with great appreciation, such as the Chevening Scholarship, Commonwealth Shared Scholarship award or partial award or government, including the AU
Discount department awards and Aber-graduates).
6. Scholarships can not be deferred for future consumption.
7. This scholarship scheme is reviewed each year.

Munby Fellowship Scholarship for Phd in Bibliography

The Munby Fellow Scholarship for Phd will be free to pursue bibliographical research of his/her own choosing. It is, however, expected that the Fellow’s research will be, at least in part, based directly or indirectly on the collections of the University and Colleges of Cambridge and likely to be of benefit, in the broadest sense, to scholars using those collections in the future. The Fellow Scholarship for Phd will have no departmental or other staff duties and responsibilities.

The Fellowship Scholarship for Phd is open to graduates in any discipline of any university and nationality. Preference will be give to scholars at post-doctoral or an equivalent level.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship Scholarship for Phd at Darwin College will normally be available to the successful candidate, if not already a Fellow of a Cambridge College. Fellows in these categories are members of the Governing Body of the College and may take meals in the College without charge.

Virginia Tech/BAE Systems FIRST Scholarship for US female citizen currently enrolled as a junior in high school

Virginia Tech, with the support of BAE Systems, is offering a $2500 scholarship to a female student who has participated in either the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) or the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) while in high school. The applicant must be a US citizen currently enrolled as a junior in high school. The application is due April 1 and must include a recommendation from their FIRST Adult Mentor or Coach.
Winner of the FIRST-VT Scholarship will be notified in September. In order to receive the scholarship, the student must be enrolled full time in the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. The scholarship will be distributed in equal amounts fall and spring semesters. This is a renewable scholarship for up to 4 years of engineering studies. In order to renew this scholarship, the student must earn a 3.0 overall GPA, to be evaluated following the spring semester. The student must also be maintaining progress towards a bachelor of science degree from the College of Engineering.

Scholarship : The Career Award for Science and Mathematics Teachers – Burroughs Wellcome Fund, USA

Scholarship Introduction:
The Career Award for Science and Mathematics Teachers is a five-year award available to outstanding science and/or mathematics teachers in the North Carolina public primary and secondary schools. The purpose of this award is to recognize teachers who have demonstrated solid knowledge of science and/or mathematics content and have outstanding performance records in educating children. This five-year award presents opportunities for professional development and collaboration with other master science and/or mathematics teachers who will help to ensure their success as teachers and their satisfaction with the field of teaching. Special consideration will be given to teachers working in hard-to-staff, economically deprived classrooms in North Carolina. The award also offers schools and school districts the opportunity to fully develop teachers as leaders in the field.Career Awards for Science and Mathematics Teachers provide $175,000 over a period of five years ($35,000 per year) to eligible teachers in the North Carolina public school system. The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) will support five awards with annual installments as allocated below.Teacher Salary $10,000 stipend will be provided to the school district to supplement the teacher’s annual salary or for fringe benefits, such as retirement or insurance.$5,000 will be held annually by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund to be given to the teacher at the end of the five-year award, if the teaching professional remains in the K-12 classroom in a North Carolina public school. The State Board of Education will provide extra salary support to ensure that award recipients will receive a 12-month contract. The Department of Public Instruction will send these funds to the appropriate LEA beginning July 1 of each year. $10,000 may be used to purchase needed equipment and supplies for that teacher’s classroom or laboratory or be shared with the teacher’s school or school district.$10,000 may be used at the discretion of the teacher for professional development activities, travel and registration to meetings or conferences, hiring substitutes, networking with colleagues, and capacity building for the teacher or a team of teachers.The award is flexible in allowing teachers to reach beyond their school into the school district to build bridges, stimulate collective learning, and develop strategies to build their own capacity as a teacher, as well as the capacity of their school, district, or region.

Career Awards for Science and Mathematics Teachers provide $175,000 over a period of five years ($35,000 per year) to eligible teachers in the North Carolina public school system. Candidate eligibility and institutional nomination requirements are outlined below.

• Candidates in middle school and high school must hold licensure to teach science and/or mathematics in North Carolina and have completed at least five years of teaching experience at the time of application with at least 70 percent of their time devoted to teaching science and/or mathematics courses.
• Candidates in elementary schools, who also can be science and/or mathematics specialists, must have completed at least five years of teaching at the time of application; with at least 30 percent of the candidate’s time spent teaching science and/or mathematics. At least 20 percent of their time should be spent working with other teachers if they are specialists.
• Candidates must have superior knowledge of science and/or mathematics, excellent teaching skills, demonstrated leadership, and a commitment to continue teaching in the North Carolina Public School system.
• Candidates must be currently licensed North Carolina public school science and/or mathematics teachers who teach in grades K-12 in North Carolina public schools.
• Candidates must be citizens of the United States.

All applications will require signatures and letters of support from the principal of the candidate’s school and the superintendent of the school district. Innovation Futures will deliver bespoke, in-depth, interdisciplinary interventions across priority industry sectors to promote transformational change and an innovation culture through long term collaborations with businesses in the region. It will create a new team and additional resources to mobilise the University's research and consultancy expertise in Materials, Design, Food Innovation, Individual and Organisational Development and Sports Engineering.

Innovation Futures, is supported by ERDF, Yorkshire Forward and the University's HEIF 4 funds. The total project value is in the region of £3m over a three year period.

The Materials & Engineering Research Institute (MERI) is a large and research active business within Sheffield Hallam University. Based at City Campus, its excellent research outputs in areas such as materials modelling, multi-layer nanoscale PVD coatings and clay nanocomposite materials have gained it an RAE rating of 5 in the most recent assessment. MERI also excels in generating income through consultancy activities including failure analysis, quality control and new product development. Our clients include many national and international companies from the automotive, medical and aerospace sectors, but also include many SMEs from the Yorkshire and Humberside region. The quality of our interaction was recognised by Yorkshire Forward when MERI was accredited with a Centre of Industrial Collaboration (MARS CIC).

Sheaf Solutions is a consultancy business within MERI which delivers process modelling and simulation consultancy to a range of public sector and industrial clients. We are seeking to strengthen the Sheaf Solutions team through the recruitment of a highly motivated individual to deliver consultancy to local and national clients.


The role will require a flexible approach in order to respond to the diverse needs of industry. With some industrial experience, you will be very capable in the understanding of the application of process modelling and simulation to industrial processes and will be able to supplement the work of other MERI staff by providing consultancy on the optimisation of engineering processes using software such as Arena, and you will have significant experience of work or research in associated areas, such as Lean Operations.



A background of having worked for other regional projects or within Government funded schemes would be an advantage.

The role will include talking to regional companies, generating new contacts and delivering work, and report writing.

You will ideally be educated to postgraduate level (or with equivalent experience) and with significant experience in a research and development environment. You must have excellent IT, communications and written skills and be able to perform individually or as part of a team where necessary.
